# Who is named in the console

> Choose whether Endpoint shows people by name, by a stable code, or only as weekly totals. What each mode shows, what it hides, and what leaving counts only involves.

Endpoint sees which AI services people use and what happens to their
prompts. A workspace decides how much of that is tied to a person in the
console. There are three choices, and the same choice applies to the
whole workspace.

| Mode | What the console shows |
| - | - |
| **Named** | People and machines are shown by name. |
| **Coded** | Each person and machine carries a stable code. A name is shown only under a recorded reveal that a second person approves. Recommended. |
| **Counts only** | Nobody is named or coded. The console shows weekly totals by AI service and department, and any figure under 5 people is folded into **Other**. Single events, devices and requests are not listed, and nobody can be revealed. |

You choose it first when you connect devices in Getting Started, and you
can change it later in **Settings → Privacy**. Pages that depend on it
show a small line, such as **People: Coded**, with a **Change** link.

## Coded

In coded mode every list shows a code in place of the name. Codes are
stable, so you can follow one device or person across events without
knowing who it is.

To see who a code is, a person with `endpoint.identity.reveal.request`
asks for a time-boxed reveal on a recorded occasion and gives a reason.
A second person with `endpoint.identity.reveal.approve` decides it, and
never their own request. The name is shown to the requester alone, for
the window, and every read is in the audit trail. Where the works
council module is on, the approver must also hold the works council role.
See [Endpoint permissions](https://docs.blindsight.io/endpoint/permissions.md).

## Counts only

Counts only keeps the evidence and removes the people. The platform
enforces it, not just the console: the API refuses a request that would
return a person or a device.

### What you see

* Weekly totals by AI service and by department, over the last 4, 12 or
  26 weeks.
* The Shadow AI inventory, for services seen by at least 5 people.
* Fleet counts by protection state, operating system and agent version.
* Policies, group definitions, alerts without identity, the audit trail
with every monitored person shown generically, enrollment and installs.

### What you do not see

* The events feed and event detail.
* The device list, the device page and per-device actions.
* The person page and Workforce rows, and per-person requests and
  exceptions.
* Any per-person or per-device export, report, search result, alert or
  email.
* Live charts, which are replaced by the weekly figures.

### The cohort floor

Every breakdown follows one rule: a group is shown only when it has at
least **5** people in it. Groups under 5 are merged into **Other**, and
if **Other** would itself be under 5, the smallest shown groups join it.
If a whole breakdown is under 5, nothing in it is shown. A single count
that falls under the floor reads **fewer than 5**.

Only closed weeks are published, and a published week is computed once
and never changes. The current week is never shown, so reloading cannot
reveal what one person did in the last hour, and later deletions or
department moves cannot be subtracted from a week that is already out.

Because overlapping groups could be subtracted to isolate one person,
breakdowns are by department and AI service only. There is no breakdown
by directory group, no cross-tab, and no free filter by user or device.

## Leaving counts only

Moving from counts only to coded or named is a **request**, not a save,
because it would show people a workspace had promised not to show.

* It takes effect after a **30-day notice period**. The workspace stays
in counts only until then, and the request can be cancelled.
* Where the works council module is on, a works council member must
approve the request before the notice period starts.
* People are told on their devices before any new data is coded or named,
and the notice says from which date.
* The request is recorded in the audit trail at high severity.
* Everything recorded while counts only was on stays totals only, for
good. It is never shown per person in any later mode: events, device
timelines, per-person counts, exports and reports all use the weekly
  figures for those weeks.

The other changes (named to coded, or coded to named) start immediately
after a confirmation that says how many more people will be shown.
Moving toward naming more people is recorded in the audit trail at high
severity.
